Have you ever…
Or do you still even.
fall back on the reasonings of things like.. “its just who i am“ or “its what i do” to others its usually “but you always…”
this for me is a reflection piece but also based on correlations i come across with people.
lets put this reasoning a little under the microscope…
when a person says this type of thing they are taking the action, routine or habit and attaching their identity too it. A safe way to justify the action or habit because as the wider world of poltical divide has shown, we’ll defend it with all weve got. rightly or wrongly.
im being very conscious not to go off track with this blog post. So back to “its just who i am”
for the vast majority this type reasoning only applies to vices or (deepdown) undesired actions or habits.
but even in this theres still a positive we can take from it.
Success leaves clues… so here is what i believe can be the positive moment:
applying the same reasoning, the same mindset to the desired actions and routines rather than the negative ones.
you know the conversations like…
“you work out alot lately“ she said
“yeah its just who i am” you replied
Youve been doing alot of walking at work ”yeah its just me”
“you drink alot of water“ yes i do
hopefully you get the picture.
my point here is that mindset of attaching to your identity, who you are can be an asset and applied to the positives youre trying to engrain as natural. Even if they arent yet.
to everyone else youre stating its who i am
but to yourself your enforcing the person you want to become and constantly reminded yourself thats the person you are working towards.
The behaviours you are wanting to get right and make routine with your health and fitness need to become more than just words or impulsive conveniences they need to become a part of you.
Be the change you want to see in yourself. live It in the now.
This i believe is a missing component of many peoples efforts to meaningfully improve there health and fitness. Those that succeed long term, live it on their own terms in line with whom they want to be and as a resort are that person.
can you relate?
